Preserved from my youth, I’ve discovered my old boots as I left them 15 years ago. I’ve dramatised the textures of dirt and leather with a combination of impasto and early Flemish techniques - glazing with ultramarine and burnt sienna.
Thanks. They take me a fair while to complete but I am still a beginner and paint in my spare time. Your work is really good too. Do you underpaint and glaze as well?
Yeah, I've been using a technique of glazing. I sometimes cheat on the underpainting though and only go for a translucent black layer as the first layer. I often get tired of the painting after a few glazes. I've recently tried to cut down the number of glazes to a minimum, just to try and speed things up a bit. I think I'm on about 4 layers in most areas not including the underpainting. I really like this technique, but I really feel it's going to take a while to really master. But I can't see myself painting any other way. I have a long way to go though. I also paint in my spare time and recently I've become a father which means even less time.
